Abstracts

Abstracts of up to 500 words should be submitted to one of the conference tracks for review. The Conference is organised around the specific theme “Rethinking Sustainability Models and Practices: Challenges for the New and Old World Contexts” and the ISDRS core themes and associated tracks. See website for individual calls for papers relating to tracks within each of the major themes:

1. Sustainable Development Science;

2. Ecosystem Pressures and Limits;

3. Climate Change and Energy;

4. Sustainable Land Use & Sustainable Cities;

5. Corporate Sustainability and Innovation;

6. Society and Sustainability;

7. Institutions and Governance Structures for Sustainable Development.

The extended deadline for abstract submission is 15 January 2016. Abstracts will be reviewed by track chairs and their decisions notified by 1 February 2016. You may submit your abstract by visiting the Ex Ordo system (you will be required to setup an account first) that is integrated with the conference website.

Proceedings

Authors whose abstracts have been accepted for the conference have the option to submit a paper to be considered for inclusion in the conference proceedings.

Journal Special Issues

Special Issues will be published as an output of the conference in the following leading indexed peer-reviewed journals:

·      Sustainable Development;

·      Journal of Cleaner Production;

·      Journal of Environmental Assessment Policy and Management.

Plenary Sessions

Internationally renowned keynote speakers will address the themes of the conference from a range of academic and policy perspectives. Confirmed speakers are:

Prof. Lan Xue  Professor in the Tsinghua University, Co-Chair of the Executive Committee of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (a Global Initiative for the United Nations);

Prof. Hans Bruyninckx  Executive Director of the European Environment Agency;

Prof. Philip M. Fearnside  Professor in the Department of Environmental Dynamics, National Institute for Research in Amazonia;

Dr. Catarina de Albuquerque  Executive chair of Sanitation and Water for All;

Prof. Paula Antunes  Professor in the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa;

Prof. Viriato Soromenho-Marques  Professor in the Departments of Philosophy and European Studies, University of Lisbon.

1st Luso-Brazilian Symposium (11-12 July 2016) on Sustainability Models and Practices

The aim of this pre-event is to strengthen research between these two Portuguese speaking countries (for this reason, the symposium will be held in Portuguese only). This event will cover the same themes of the 22nd ISDRS Conference since it also aims at building bridges and synergies with the activities of the ISDRS, including its annual conference. It is jointly coordinated by the CENSE-FCT-UNL and the Institute of Energy and Environment, University of São Paulo.

The conference includes welcome cocktail, conference dinner and optional sustainability tours.
