Biografia

Present Position: Professor of Ecology, Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, New University of Lisbon, Portugal.

Academic Degrees: DIC, PhD, Imperial College, U.K; “Agregação”, New University of Lisbon, Portugal.

Research interests: Chemical ecology, population dynamics, integrated forest protection, biodiversity and anthropogenic impacts, alien species and management of invaded habitats and ecosystems. Gender mainstreaming in science.

Teaching: Courses at B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. level in ecology, population dynamics and ecosystem management.

Consultancy: Expert evaluator for the European Commission, DG Research, for the areas of Environment, Forestry, INCO, and Marie Curie. Consultancy at international level for e.g. industry, governmental bodies, foundations and universities.

Some ongoing and completed assignments: European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) [mission statement: to support a coherent approach to policy-making on research infrastructures in Europe, and to act as an incubator for international negotiations about concrete initiatives], delegate of Portugal. Vice-President of the European Ecological Federation; founding member and officer of several scientific societies. Reviewer for several ISI journals and other international publications, member of the editorial board of Agricultural and Forest Entomology, UK.

Invited talks and individual conferences: About 80 in countries of all continents.
